Long, 90 words. The Complex AI Institute is an independent, non-profit think tank for AI deployment, headquartered in London. It began in 2019 as a group of practitioners working on Complex AI: artificial intelligence operating where objectives conflict, mistakes are not reversible, and decisions must be traceable to whoever owns them. It formed into a think tank in 2026. The Institute advises governments and global enterprises, is appointing a fellowship of people who have deployed AI systems at scale, and publishes primary-sourced research across nine frontiers that is free to read and firewalled from its advisory work.

How we work with press

  • We answer. Media enquiries get a reply within one working day, including when the answer is that we cannot help.
  • We honour embargoes and expect the same. Research is offered under embargo where there is a reason for one, not as a matter of routine.
  • We will say when we do not know. The Institute comments on what its fellows have done and what its research shows, and declines the rest rather than filling airtime.
  • We fact-check on request. Send us the passage before publication and we will tell you what is wrong in it, without asking to review the rest of your piece.
